Ethics

Ethics has been an important subject throughout Customer ship, ethics and interaction skills course. I learned about ethical principles such as confidentiality, respect for human dignity, fairness, and responsibility.

Confidentiality means that I must protect the customer’s personal information and not talk about it with people who are not involved in their care or service. Respect means treating every person as valuable, regardless of their background, health, age, religion or social status. Fairness means that I should not discriminate and that I should try to treat customers equally.

We also talked about ethical dilemmas, where there is no simple right or wrong answer. For example, imagine that a colleague talks about a customer loudly in a public place where others can hear. This breaks confidentiality. In that situation, I should act ethically. I could first gently remind my colleague about privacy or later talk with them in private. If the behavior continues, I might need to inform a supervisor. It can feel uncomfortable, but as a professional I have a responsibility to protect the customer.

This course showed me that ethics is not only a big decision; it is present in small everyday actions and choices.
