Competency Statement

 Competency Statement

For me, working according to legislation is more than just following rules—it is about ensuring that the people I care for are safe, respected, and treated fairly. Knowing the laws and regulations in healthcare and social work helps me make the right decisions, especially in challenging situations. I understand that every action I take has an impact, and reflecting on my practice allows me to see where I am doing well and where I can improve to better protect and support my clients.

Values play a central role in my work. I believe that showing compassion, empathy, and respect is just as important as technical skills. When I interact with clients, I try to see the world from their perspective and treat them with dignity, regardless of their circumstances. I also reflect on my own values, making sure they align with professional principles so that every decision I make contributes to fair and meaningful care.

Ethics guide me through the complexities of my work. There are moments when decisions are not easy, and I must balance what is best for the client with what is morally and professionally right. Principles like autonomy, beneficence, and justice help me navigate these situations. I constantly think about my choices: Did I respect the client’s wishes? Did I act in their best interest? Could I have done more to prevent harm? These reflections help me grow as a professional and as a person.

Following professional guidelines gives me confidence that I am providing safe and effective care. Guidelines are not just rules—they are tools that help me make consistent and informed decisions. At the same time, I recognize that every client is unique, and I often need to adapt these guidelines to fit individual needs. Reflecting on how I use these standards allows me to improve and learn continuously.

Ultimately, evaluating my practice is about becoming a better professional and a better human being. By reflecting on my actions, I can ensure that I am working ethically, following the law, respecting values, and applying professional guidelines thoughtfully. This process helps me stay grounded, responsible, and compassionate, and it motivates me to keep learning so I can provide the highest quality care to those who depend on me.
